This is a project from March 2025. One of my most frequent customers, the sorority Alpha Sigma, sent a few screenshots as inspiration for their Bar Crawl shirt design. They knew roughly what colors and layout that they wanted, but they needed help putting it together and of course illustrating the local bars. For this design, I was proud of my font pairing solution, as well as the way I pieced the buildings together with a series of careful clipping masks. I drew the buildings individually in Procreate and put everything together in Adobe Illustrator.
In October of 2023, I was approached by the sorority Sigma Sigma Sigma to design crewneck sweatshirts for their leadership team. They sent me some images of vintage cartoon characters for inspiration, but gave me creative freedom to design the characters how I wanted. My first solution was the full-color image on the left, with retro primary colors and accessories inspired by their preliminary research. The group ultimately decided to go for a more simplistic and stylish design, so I removed the color and some of the flashy details. I used Procreate to illustrate the characters, and Adobe Illustrator to design the text and final details.
This shirt design is from March 2023, back before the Custom Shop was licensed with the University. I wasn’t legally capable of producing anything with University trademarks, such as “UWW,” “Warhawks,” or “UW-Whitewater.” Surprisingly, many of my customers at the time were willing to talk about creative ways to deal with the rule, like utilizing the town name, shades of purple, and symbols that reminded them of the University without violating any guidelines. I was proud of the composition of this piece and remember spending a long time moving the elements around to make them balance visually. I designed the components in Adobe Illustrator and later applied the grunge textures in Procreate.
The Alpha Delta Phi Society is a gender-inclusive fraternity on campus, and one that I’ve had the pleasure of working with year after year. The following photos show three variations of their letter apparel that I have designed and printed.
This was also the first photoshoot hosted by the Custom Shop. In 2024, I had the idea to have my student workers reach out to our recent customers to meet them in their favorite places for social media photos. This is now part of our weekly routine. We have attended our customers’ sporting events and meetings, and we have listened to their stories about campus locations that are important to them. This has been a fun win for our social media and professional relationships!
This design was one of the first big collaborative projects that I worked on with a student customer. This student was an entrepreneur affiliated with “Spring Splash,” a well-known annual party in Whitewater, and wanted to make tees to sell to her friends and classmates for the event. Her hope was to sell a hundred or more tees, IF I could help her nail down the artwork. We met multiple times to talk about the composition and colors, polling her friends and teammates on their preferences, before finally landing on a piece that earned nearly 200 sales.
The customer’s original design concept, which she pieced together in Canva. She liked the general layout, but wanted something more cohesive, artsy, and on brand for Whitewater.
An updated concept sketch after meeting with the customer a few times. We wanted to add more purples to symbolize the town, as well as more swirls and brushstrokes to make the design feel fun and artsy.
My final design; a combination of everything the student and I talked about, also taking into consideration the input from her friends. Designed in Procreate and Illustrator.
A few freshly-printed tees with the final design. We preferred the white fabric, but also offered black and lavender at the student’s colleagues’ request.
