About Kayla

Nice to meet you! I am a motivated, versatile, and colorful creator based in Whitewater, WI.

I graduated from the University of Wisconsin - Whitewater in 2017, where I studied graphic design and marketing. After a few years of exploring a broad range of design jobs, freelancing, and growing an online audience of young illustrators, I was drawn back to my alma mater.

Now, I am a UWW staff member managing a custom t-shirt shop in the campus Bookstore. I design brand-compliant apparel for the University and help students of ALL majors- not just designers- express themselves artistically. I direct a team of roughly six student employees through printing high-quality products. Mentoring them and providing a fun and safe workspace is what I am most proud of.

When I have creative freedom, my design and marketing work is mostly characterized by fun, color, and character. I have a bold illustration style and enjoy pairing funky fonts and shapes. I’m passionate about my favorite font (Avenir), and the best color (green, of course)! My favorite events to plan are the ones that make students connect with their inner kid, like tie-dye workshops and build-your-own shirt popups.

When not at work, my other joys are illustrating cartoonish pet portraits, playing the clarinet in two community bands, and tending to my dozens of houseplants, four geckos, and kitty named Clover.
